Confidentiality & Privacy

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is part of the ethical guidelines for psychologists and means that information between a client and a psychologist cannot be shared with anyone else. It is important that people feel comfortable about talking about private and revealing information. People need to feel safe to share about anything they might need too. Sometimes there are limits to confidentiality that means information shared in sessions may be disclosed.

Limits to Confidentiality

Information obtained by you during sessions or from referral information remains confidential and cannot be disclosed without your consent. There are some legal limitations to confidentiality in the situation where:

  • information is subpoenaed by a court

  • failure to disclose information would place you or another person at risk

  • your prior, written approval has been obtained to:

    • provide a written report to another professional (Medical Practitioner, Lawyer, Work Cover agent etc)

    • Discuss the material with another person (parent, employer, other third party billing source).

Privacy

We and our psychologists comply with the Health Privacy Principles and the Ethical Guidelines of the Australian Psychological Society in the collection, use and disclosure of all personal mental health/health information.

Reframe Psychology adheres to the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, which are contained in the Schedule 1 of the Act.

What we collect

We collect general information (but not limited to):

  • from you directly when you provide details to us

  • from a person responsible for you

  • from third parties where the Health Records (Privacy and Access) Act 1997 and the Privacy Act 1988 and other laws allow it.

This may include personal information collected in person, in writing, by telephone, through our website, mobile applications and other electronic communication channels. We have hard copy and electronic copies of your information.

If you have any questions relating access to personal information, please contact Reframe Psychology via email with your request: heidi.reframepsychology@gmail.com.

Cancellations

Confirmation messages

You will receive a confirmation message/email 48 hours prior to your appointment that you must reply to.

If we do not hear back from you we cannot guarantee your appointment will still be available.

Remember, a late cancelled appointment is a loss to:

  • you, as your therapy progress is delayed

  • the person who has been waiting to see the psychologist, sometimes urgently

  • the psychologist who spent time preparing for your session and may have travelled to the location to see you

Replying to the message/email means that you accept our cancellation policy.

Cancellation Policy

If you make and confirm your appointment you are agreeing to adhere to the policy.

If you have confirmed an appointment and cancel/fail to attend at your scheduled time you may be charged a cancellation fee. The cancellation fees for a 50 minute session are:

0-24 hours notice: full fee

24-48 hours notice: 50% of fee.

Things come up (i.e. illness) which mean that you may not be able to attend, however, given there is often a waitlist of others wanting to get in for an appointment, as much notice as possible to reschedule/cancel your appointment is greatly appreciated.

Note:

If you are attending under a mental health care plan, no cancellation fee can be recovered from Medicare, so you will be required to pay completely out of your own pocket to cover the cost of the session missed.

If you are attending under NDIS, a cancellation fee payment will be required as per the policy.
